On the way back from a trip to the Peak District, we stopped in Matlock. I remembered it fondly from trips as a child, but it was a pretty empty place on a weekday mid-morning. It felt like an out of season coastal town.
There wasn’t all that much that drew my attention as we walked around until I noticed this display in a pet shop window. The colours grabbed me first, then I noticed the placard, proudly offering passers-by the chance to “Meet Ollie”, the award-winning whippet.

This picture also represents a challenge for me. I’ve fallen into the habit of crushing the blacks in an image. It’s a look that I like, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s time that I embrace the dynamic range of shooting digital more. Who knows – I’ll probably change my mind tomorrow.
I’m also still trying to work out the best way to upload. I’m currently using JPEGs at around 1200px (as per WP recommendations) on the longest side. Trying to balance load times while actually doing the photos justice. Any tips, please let me know.
